Pre-Test Monitoring: Before the commencement of the test, the static water level in the borehole is measured. This is the level at which water stands in the borehole when it is not being pumped and reflects the natural equilibrium state of the groundwater.

Step Test: A step test may be conducted initially, where the pump rate is incrementally increased in steps, allowing stabilization between each step. This helps in understanding how the aquifer responds to different pumping rates.

Constant Rate Test: The main part of the yield test involves pumping the borehole at a constant rate for an extended period, often 24 hours or more. The rate is chosen based on the step test results and the anticipated water demand.

Recovery Test: After the constant rate test, pumping is stopped, and the recovery of the water level in the borehole is monitored. This provides additional information about the aquifer’s properties and its ability to recharge after pumping.

Data Analysis: The data collected during the test, including pumping rates, water levels, and recovery times, are analyzed to estimate the aquifer’s characteristics, such as transmissivity and storage coefficient.

Yield testing involves a series of controlled tests where water is pumped from the borehole at various rates, and the response of the water level in the borehole is monitored over time. The primary goal is to determine the steady-state rate at which water can be pumped from the borehole while maintaining a sustainable drawdown level. This rate is known as the Safe Yield or Sustainable Yield of the borehole.
